WBCM Construction Services Hits the Ground Running

Just as the new Director of Construction Services, Lyle Aaby, begins to get oriented at WBCM, hurricane Isabelle created our first project at the World Trade Center- Baltimore.

Isabelle created a record-breaking storm surge at the Inner Harbor and flooded the basement at the World Trade Center in Baltimore. The building’s main electrical and mechanical systems were devastated in the flood, causing the total shutdown of the building.

Our Construction Services Division was given the task to restore the damaged building for tenants within 30 days and then complete repairs to the entire basement area. The Baltimore Business Journal said they had credible sources telling them the building would not be ready for re-occupancy for about 6 months.

Our team of construction contractors under the direction and coordination of WBCM took the challenge seriously and successfully completed all systems for the tenants to return to their landmark office space in 29 days!

The basement damage repairs were assessed by our Architectural Department and successfully compiled the drawings and specifications for bids received November 3rd. The schedule to complete all repairs is February 2004. The costs are expected to be about $7 million dollars and the World Trade Center will be in first-rate order. Our Site Department is also designing some changes to their utilities that will ensure that future flood exposure will be minimized.

All in all the WBCM Team responded to the MPA’s emergency in stellar order and have initiated the Construction Services Division appropriately.

The Salisbury By-Pass project is the winner of “Best in Show” in this year’s ACPA Excellence in Concrete Pavement Awards in the Divided Highways - Rural category. ACPA will recognize Cherry Hill Construction, Inc. (Contractor) and their work on the Salisbury By-Pass as the “best concrete paving project in the country.”
