
Landscape Architect (08B-11-002) Applications are being accepted for future consideration and approval by MD State Highway Administration (SHA) for a full-time staff member working out of the SHA’s Headquarters in Baltimore to work as an on-site Consultant in the Landscape Operations Division of the Office of Environmental Design. The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture with 6-8 years of design and leadership experience, be a good organizer, able to follow a logical progression, proficient in AutoCAD and MS-Excel, possess good written communication skills, and possess well-developed teamwork skills. The ideal candidate will be self motivated, capable of handling complex assignments without a great deal of guidance or follow-up, run special projects, organize a large volume of work, work with process development, and write specifications, procedures and guidelines.
Primary responsibilities include project documentation (phone calls, e-mails, field reviews, construction reviews, meetings both in office and in field, etc.), design/review of landscape plans, forest stand and wetland delineation, forest conservation plans, streetscapes, master plans and preparation/review of construction documents, specifications and cost estimates. Work efforts also will include field visits to review construction projects and to verify adherence to SHA standards. The position may grow to include stream and wetland assessment, wetland mitigation design, and environmental permitting. The position entails a combination of field and office work. Successful candidate needs to be flexible and able to work on numerous projects, juggle deadlines, and work with many personalities across discipline lines, keeping project goals in mind. Good written and oral communication skills are required. Microstation and GIS experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Familiarity with SHA Book of Standards, Specification, Construction Details, and Special Provisions preferred. This position requires minimal lifting (10-20 lbs.). Field work may be required regardless of weather. Occasional overtime and some local travel also required. Position reports to SHA Project Manager. Refer to Job #08B-11-002 when applying.
