What happened to the Whitney Bailey Cox & Magnani
name?
In celebration of the firm’s 30th anniversary in 2007, we launched a new name
and a new brand image. Whitney Bailey Cox & Magnani, LLC remains the
legal contracting entity for the engineering services we provide. WBCM, LLC
is the legal entity for our architecture contracting. WBCM Construction Services,
LLC is our sister entity, which is the construction arm of our firm. Together,
we are WBCM—one name, one brand, one position… to leverage our extensive
AEC offerings to provide our clients and partnering firms the best possible
design, engineering and construction services.
What kind of work do you do?
WBCM is a multidisciplinary architecture, engineering and construction firm.
Our Architecture Group offers Architecture, Interior Design and 3-D Graphic
Design services. Our large Engineering team provides comprehensive engineering
services across numerous departments, including Building Structures, Site
Engineering, Surveying, Industrial/Process Engineering, Marine Engineering,
Highway Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Environmental
Water Resources, Geographic Information Systems, Permitting and Construction
Inspection. WBCM Constructions Services, LLC is the construction management
and facility construction arm of the firm. Having all of this diverse—yet
complimentary—talent makes WBCM a viable full-service firm.
What kind of architecture work do you do?
Our Architecture Group delivers creative, innovative and value-added pre-design
and design services to many different public- and private-sector clients,
including commercial, industrial, government, residential and healthcare.
Is this the radio station?
We love this one! WBCM is an established, trusted, multidisciplinary architecture,
engineering and construction firm. But, if we decided to leave all that behind
and take to the airwaves, we fancy our firm’s culture as translating to the
classic rock ‘n’ roll genre—you know… the music you feel comfortable with,
that you know the words to, that has wide appeal and that never goes out
of style.
How many branch offices do you have and where are they?
Our headquarters is in suburban Baltimore, Maryland and we have three branch
offices—at the Canton Waterfront in downtown Baltimore and in Harrisburg
(Camp Hill) and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
What is the corporate culture like? Is it a good place to work?
WBCM’s culture is one of work hard, play hard. We expect our team to bring
their professional best to every task, every project, every client contact.
For those efforts, we make an effort to have fun together and to compensate
our staff well—through annual performance reviews and through a strong offering
of benefits.
What is your management like? Do they care about the staff or just the bottom
line?
An Executive Committee, comprised of the firm’s seven Class-A Principals and
our Chief Financial Officer, leads the WBCM team. This management team balances
a bottom-line focus with a client-driven commitment while supporting, recognizing
and giving employees opportunities to excel in their careers.
Isn’t WBCM mainly a transportation company?
While we are very active in the transportation sector, that is only one focus
of the services we provide. WBCM is a multidisciplinary AEC firm with a portfolio
of projects and a base of clients, which span across industries and across
the disciplines of architecture, engineering and construction.
How large of a company are you?
Since 1977, WBCM has grown to a team of over 200 people. We expect to exceed
$23 million in billings in 2007. Our headquarters and main office is located
in suburban Baltimore. In addition, we have three branch offices: Canton
Waterfront (Baltimore, MD), Harrisburg (Camp Hill, PA) and Pittsburgh (PA).
What is your primary geographic region of work?
The bulk of our business is in the Mid-Atlantic region; however, we are continually
expanding our reach into new markets and new regions throughout the country—from
up and down the Eastern seaboard and into the Midwest.
What does Construction Services mean?
In our industry, construction services often refers to construction inspection—inspection
and testing services—or to construction management, including CPM scheduling,
cost control and claims avoidance/analysis. The decidedly different position
of WBCM, among its competition in the area, is that we not only offer construction
inspection and construction management, but also offer a well-rounded scope
of pre-construction services and facility construction services.
Do you have MEP services as part of your firm?
WBCM does not offer mechanical, electrical or plumbing services directly; however,
we partner with MEP firms on a regular basis to best serve our clients and
their project needs.
How small or how large a project will you consider?
WBCM is well suited to accommodate projects up to $100 million in total design
and construction cost.
